Is Online Personal Training Right For You? (Part 2 of 3)

The trainers who succeed online have been through a transformation.

Yup, that’s the "secret."

They’ve leveled up from “Fitness Trainer” and became an “Online Expert.”

“Fitness Trainer” vs. “Online Expert” is a concept I came up with to help demonstrate the two camps or categories (or models) that us fitness professionals operate within.

Their traits are based on real people.

You’re currently one of them.

Which one? Read the rest of this page to discover that.

But know this … you learned on the past page that the game has already been rigged against you. This might be the wakeup call you need.

One last thing … this will also show you if online personal training is right for you and your career.

Stick with it to the end.

Meet Fitness Trainer, James

Starting an online personal training business

Hi, I’m James (32), and I’m a personal trainer from Miami.

Well, I’m a part-time trainer as I spend half my day taking fitness classes at my gym to cover my overheads.

I’ve been in the industry for three years now and got started when I finally decided to help others with their fitness after transforming my own body and health.

I eat, sleep and breath health and fitness, and I like to share that with others.

That’s my goal.

Meet Online Expert, Kris

Starting an online personal training company

Hi, I’m Kris (34), and I’m an online coach from Toronto.

I’m the founder of the “Lean for life project,” my signature online program for busy men who want to regain control of their bodies.

We’ve got clients all around the world and also host exotic retreats throughout the year for them.

I got started online three years ago, and at first, it was confusing as hell, but I kept at it, and it got a whole lot easier.

Decisions ...

So WHO are you currently “operating” as right now?

Are you James or Kris?

Think about it. It’s important.

Now that we’re clear on that let me continue to explain the big DIFFERENCE between James and Kris.

The Fitness Trainers Role

James the “fitness trainer” is currently spinning his wheels. He doesn’t feel like a ‘business’ owner.

But he’s determined to work hard. In fact, he’s prepared to work hard AF.

How to start online coaching fitness

He wakes up and leaves the house before dawn each day except Sunday. And he never returns home until after sunset.

That’s because he goes to ‘work’ every day and sells his time in exchange for cash. He works with any client who will say yes.

Despite being super busy, James’ business stays stagnant and never progresses. It’s burning him out.

You see he lacks the confidence to progress.

So he procrastinates over every ‘to-do’ and does everything in the business to run it.

He’s a one-man band.

He makes excuses for this lack of progress, by bitching about his colleagues and blaming his clients for their lack of results.

However, he’s always on the lookout for a quick fix solution to his problems and is happy to chase any shiny objects with big promises.

But when it always comes down to it, James is too afraid to invest in himself and his business.

In the past, he did buy into “certifications” and “awards,” but they never delivered the promises of a rewarding career that he had expected.

He’s now skeptical as hell.

When James isn’t ‘working,’ he wastes energy focusing on the wrong tasks. He spends too much time consuming other peoples information and never takes action on it.

James doesn’t make any money online because he is too afraid of the ‘tech’ involved.

The Online Expert Role

Kris operates entirely different to James.

Kris understands that time is our greatest assets, so leverages his time with digital products and services.

He works his own hours and to his own schedule.

He carefully selects the type of clients he works with.

When he is working, he focuses on one key business model. He avoids shiny object marketing and strategies like the plague.

He takes consistent action towards his goals, and the business grows week by week, month by month.

This is achieved by continually innovating his products and services while focusing on providing genuine value to the world.

This means he is creating more than he is consuming and focuses more on his own work than others.

Kris isn’t afraid to invest in his business.

He outsources crucial tasks to skilled people and seeks the right mentors and guidance.

Kris has embraced the digital revolution and keeps up to date with the latest software available to him. He surrounds himself with like-minded people who are doing the same.

Kris makes all of his income online.

He is building a fitness business.

Drawing the line in the sand

Right now, you know who you are operating like.

The question is, do you want to operate at the same level as Kris, the “Online Expert.” Or as James, the “Fitness trainer.”

I promised to help you decide if online coaching is for you, and this is it.

If you don’t want to operate as the “Online Expert” role, then an online fitness business is likely not for you right now.

If you’re content operating in the ‘Fitness Trainer” role, then that’s fine.

It’s all choices and decisions and attitude. None wrong. Depends on what you want, and for what reasons.

Some James’ consciously know they’re a James, but they want to change. But mostly, they don’t (yet) know how. They wanna be a Kris — if they only knew how.

If you’re currently a James — then you have a decision to make.

But whatever you choose, know that it’s the right decision (for you).

Because Kris’ are different.

A Kris knows that building an online fitness business is a process, not a get rich quick scheme.

It’s something that gets worked on, continuously.

The road ahead is not easy. Hell no. Not one little bit. It requires pigheaded discipline and determination.

But when you get to work on providing value to the world online, and then creating tangible products that deliver results…

…your life can change completely.

An online fitness business changes everything.
